Sad to admit that I didn't notice the spelling of "Beefmastor" until my second reading. I first knew Wilson, NC for a motorcycle rally back in the early 70's. which has nothing to do with the steak place but colors my memory of Wilson. I'm an Angus Barn proponent. Love the place and try to eat there when I'm in the area. Some interesting, eclectic spots in this article. Thanks so much. Bones and The Black Angus are the only two I've visited(although some ears ago). Beef N' Bottle and Charlie's look very interesting.
Next time you're in Virginia Beach, the Aberdeen Barn is worth a review. It is old school with a refrigerator case of steaks when you walk in. Decor is old school too. Not saying it was the best but it was good.
Reading this made me think of a few places that I miss and/or need to go back to. Pilgreens Steakhouse in the southern part of Atlanta is now in McDonough. I haven't been to that location. Demos' Italian in the Nashville area where steak and spaghetti is a staple. Dub's High on the Hog in Calhoun, Ga serves steaks that are served much like the ones in the photos in the story, among other southern fare. Here in Greenville, SC, I guess the only real "Old School" steak house is The Peddler albeit part of a chain. I've only been once but it's definitely an experience.
This is why I can’t wait to open your Monday missive. The one morning if the week when I am smiling after reading what arrived on my phone.
Bern's in Tampa isn't on the list? It was the first place that I experienced a tableside caesar.

We will definitely be using this as a guide on our next trip South.
